Call of Duty: Modern Warfare publisher Activision has repeatedly stated that Infinity Ward is doing fine since heads Vince Zampella and Jason West were ousted from the company early last year. A report on the LA Times’ Company Town blog, however, tells a different story — according to the piece, both Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software have been tasked with helping develop the next, still unannounced Modern Warfare title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
“People familiar with the situation” claim that Sledgehammer is working with the remaining staff at Infinity Ward on developing the game’s single-player campaign, while Singularity developer Raven Software is in charge of bringing up the multiplayer side of things. The sources also contend that, like past Call of Dutytitles, MW3 is expected to ship this November. Additionally, Sledgehammer is said to have halted production on its own spinoff Call of Duty title in order to help IW out.
I’m not surprised there are rumors flying around involving an upcoming Modern Warfare 3. I think we all knew it was going to happen at some point. While MW2 did not live up to its hype (in my opinion) it still did well with regards to the numbers it put up on release. And with Call of Duty becoming an annual game release MW3 was the next obvious step.
But I can’t say I’m excited for it just yet. I still am a huge fan of COD4 but MW2 shattered my faith in IW that will be tough to win back. A game that had such potential was riddled with glitches and hackers. Yes, plenty of games have the same problem including Black Ops at the moment. But it was the way IW handled the situation. The community was left virtually in the dark about whether or not any issues were being fixed.
Anyways I think my distain for MW2 lies mostly with the people that played/play it. The really ruined it for me. MW3 could be a different story for me, who knows. Tis too soon to tell.
