PS3 cracking down on hackers

Via PlayStation Blog

Notice: Unauthorized circumvention devices for the PlayStation 3 system have been recently released by hackers. These devices permit the use of unauthorized or pirated software. Use of such devices or software violates the terms of the “System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System” and the “Terms of Services and User Agreement” for the PlayStation Network/Qriocity and its Community Code of Conduct provisions. Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system. In addition, copying or playing pirated software is a violation of International Copyright Laws. Consumers using circumvention devices or running unauthorized or pirated software will have access to the PlayStation Network and access to Qriocity services through PlayStation 3 system terminated permanently.

To avoid this, consumers must immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.

I am very much against hacking and pirating games. I am glad to hear that Sony is going to start cracking down on some of the people who think they are above paying for their games.

Yes, I am in the boat of people who think that games are overpriced. But that does not mean I cheat the system. The money you and I pay on that game goes into making bigger and better games in the future. I chose this hobby, this passion knowing how expensive it is. Sometimes games are worth the $60 or more you spend on it. Others will having you running back to GameStop or eBay hoping you can at least get back half of what you paid.

I don’t care how much more the game cost where ever you live, it does not give you the right to STEAL the game by pirating it. I support the gaming industry by paying for my games. Sometimes it’s worth it and sometimes it’s not.

So hackers, I’m sure you’ll find another way to lie, cheat, and steal again but for now try shelling out some cash and paying for a game.

You’re gunna need a bigger ban hammer

I said this back when MW2 first started getting out of hand. There is not enough being done about hackers/modders/jtaggers. I know that we have the Xbox Live Enforcement team but they are just not cutting it. Too many people out there are cheating the system and ruining everyone else’s gaming experience.

I know when I see a hacker I report them straight away. I troll the suspention/banning forum or I keep an eye on some gamertags to see if any action gets taken. Nine times out of ten nothing is done. Or if something is done it’s months after the infraction. What good is that? That player then has months and months to continue hacking? And usually I’m not the only one to file a complaint on said hacker.

WHY ISN’T MORE BEING DONE! XBL gamers pay for the service, why isn’t some of that money going to more policy enforcement? The bigger the 360 community gets the more idiots out there mod their consoles or hack their games.

I love my 360 but come on Microsoft, you can do better than this. Why are these people allowed to ruin games for everyone else?

What is Prestige?

1. reputation or influence arising from success, achievement, rank, or other favorable attributes.

2. distinction or reputation attaching to a person or thing and thus possessing a cachet for others or for the public

3. having or showing success, rank, wealth, etc.

Back in the good old days of Call of Duty 4 a definition like that would be attached to the prestige process of COD. These days when it comes to WaW or MW2 no way. I spent my weekend carving out a good chunk of my 5th prestige in WaW. I have never received more 10th lobby messages in my life.

People really have no respect for what prestige actually stands for. They hack their way to the top and then what? So they can say they’re 10th prestige? It’s worth nothing if you don’t earn it. I don’t care if “everyone does it” or it’s a “broken game”. Those who hack 10th are part of the “broken game” problem.

I thought I would be safe from many of those hackers in WaW, and while there are less gameplay issues there are still plenty of hackers. It’s sad to get on a team of 10th hackers and lose. They don’t have the actual skill behind the rank they failed to earn. I’ll take a team of non-prestige over a team of 10th hackers any day.
