Excited? You bet I am!!
With the announcement of the upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops DLC there of course have been cries of joy and cries of hate. The usual when it comes to the COD community. No one is ever satisfied.
Let’s start with the price. 1200 Microsoft Points or about $15. Sound familiar? That’s how much each MW2 map packs set you back on release. Those packs included 3 new maps and 2 re-done COD4 maps. If you remember my previous rants, I was just as pissed as everyone else about the price of those. 1200 points for a few new maps and some recycled ones. But of course I still bought them.
The difference with “First Strike” is that ALL the maps are ALL new. Now for those of you who have read reports online that these maps included in the map pack are canceled maps from the shipped game why does that matter to you? (if it’s true) They are still new maps that just didn’t make the cut.
Now for you PS3 and PC gamers out there, I know it sucks that you have to wait an extra month to get these maps. But it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that the pack is Xbox 360 exclusive for 30 days. The announcement was made back at E3 that 360 users would get first crack at the Black Ops DLC. It’s just the way it the money flowed.
Microsoft obviously threw out some big money for this deal and 360 users (who incidentally pay for their online experience) get a little something out of it. I’m not trying to start a console war (because I hate them) but there are perks to paying for Xbox LIVE and this is one of those times.
Anyways get pumped for this map pack. I know I am!
That’s right folks, Dan Bunting himself makes an appearance on Xbox Live’s Major Nelson’s podcast and gives us the official word on Black Ops DLC. Download the show and listen for yourself. Bunting’s interview is at about the 30 minute mark.
For those who are too impatient here’s the low down…
~DLC called “First Strike” will drop February 1st 2011 exclusively on XBL (to start)
~Pack will include 4 MP maps and 1 Zombie map
~It will set you back 1200 Microsoft Points
~MP maps are called Kowloon, Berlin Wall, Discovery and Stadium
~Zombie map called Ascension
~”Berlin Wall” takes place at Checkpoint Charlie
~”Discovery” takes place in an antarctic German research station
~”Kowloon” is based a single player mission in China
~”Stadium” is in a freakin hockey rink!!!
So those sound pretty awesome if I do say so myself. I mean a hockey rink?! I’m sold. Yes 1200 Microsoft points does seem a bit pricey for a map pack. Yes I have ranted about the high prices of the MW2 DLC but the main difference this time is that all the maps are BRAND NEW. No remake maps in this DLC. So while 1200 is a lot, it’s a little more justified this time in my opinion.
