Before I jump into the main issue, let me just say that I don’t support console wars. I have a 360, PS3, Vita, 3DS, and a gaming laptop. I have a foot in almost every camp. But if you feel the need to call me a fangirl, knock yourself out.
It’s no secret that I jumped the pre-order the Xbox One as soon as I could. Before any big changes were even made. I was/still am excited for Microsoft’s next generation console and what it means for the future of gaming. Unlike many players out there, the “always online” requirement and the mandatory Kinect was never a big issue to me. I personally feel that we will not see the last of these features but it became clear that the community was just not ready for the innovations that Microsoft was pushing. Cries rang out across the internet and MS decides to give in and backpedal.
Enter Sony. Sony decides to take the “negative political ad” route and starts to make stabs at Microsoft’s situation.
“While others have shifted their message and changed their story … ” House said, then paused after a few cheers from the crowd, smiled and continued. “… we were consistent in maintaining policies and a model that is fair and in tune with consumer desires.”
If your product can not speak for itself without taking cheap shots at the competition then is it really even worth buying? Almost every politician will air a negative ad once and a while. But when those ads dominate your campaign they start to leave a bad taste in the voter’s mouth. The same applies to the next gen console war. If your campaign consists of jabbing MS at every conference, you’re going to start pushing some players away.
Will I buy a PS4? Most likely a year or two down the road. Xbox Live is where my friends play and where I have the most fun so that’s where I spend most of my game time. Play what works for you.
