Choose Your Words

Xbox Live and PSN are virtual playgrounds where gamers can come together and play their favorite games, make new friends, and compete for bragging rights. But sometimes those ever popular multiplayer lobbies can be cesspools of foul language, racism, and just plain hate speech. With the ability to hide behind their TV screens children and adults alike partake in the slinging of insults.

While there is bound to be profanity thrown around in a game like Call of Duty, there are some words that really irk me more than others. Two in particular will make me leave a lobby when used in such excess. The words Nigger and Faggot are both classified as hate speech. Whether or not you use these terms and mean them as hate speech is irrelevant. They are not just slang terms to be thrown in a sentence to get a few laughs or shock value. These words are meant to harm certain groups of people. To make them feel inferior as human beings.

Now to those who use these terms on a regular basis, would you walk down the street greeting people with “good morning N-bomb!” or “How are the kids doing F-bomb?” Would you use these hurtful words anywhere besides the safe haven behind your TV screen? Somehow I doubt it.

I know I’m asking a lot here, but my plea to you is to think about what you say over Xbox Live or PSN. The people on the other side may not tell you it hurts them but every time you use the words the wound opens wider. The mute button may be a click away, but it’s not always that easy.

I know it’s tough, but use your brain before you open your mouth.

Thoughts on the winners? Any big shockers for you?

Let the Shopping Begin

First of all I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! While many of you, like me, are sitting back in a food coma, others finished the clean up and made a dash for the malls. For many stores Black Friday starts precisely at midnight and some people waste no time soaking up the sales and deals.

Personally I’m more of an online shopper but if you are heading out tonight or tomorrow be sure to have done your research. For you gamers, GameStop has a 12 page Black Friday ad that’s worth a look. And if you do plan to go out at insane hours to shop please be careful. There is no need to risk your own life to get the first or last of anything.

As for those who plan to just take the day to sit back in front of your favorite game console and eat leftovers, XBL is offering some deals you won’t even have to get out of your P.J.s for.

You’re gunna need a bigger ban hammer

I said this back when MW2 first started getting out of hand. There is not enough being done about hackers/modders/jtaggers. I know that we have the Xbox Live Enforcement team but they are just not cutting it. Too many people out there are cheating the system and ruining everyone else’s gaming experience.

I know when I see a hacker I report them straight away. I troll the suspention/banning forum or I keep an eye on some gamertags to see if any action gets taken. Nine times out of ten nothing is done. Or if something is done it’s months after the infraction. What good is that? That player then has months and months to continue hacking? And usually I’m not the only one to file a complaint on said hacker.

WHY ISN’T MORE BEING DONE! XBL gamers pay for the service, why isn’t some of that money going to more policy enforcement? The bigger the 360 community gets the more idiots out there mod their consoles or hack their games.

I love my 360 but come on Microsoft, you can do better than this. Why are these people allowed to ruin games for everyone else?
